জীবন জয়ী ফেরোজা
দিনাজপুর জেলা শহর থেকে প্রায় আশি কিলোমিটার দূরে ঘোড়াঘাট উপজেলা বুলাকীপুর ইউনিয়নের ছোট একটি গ্রাম বরাতীপুরে তিন ছেলে ও এক মেয়ে সহ পরিবারের ছয়জন সদস্য খুবই দুঃখ কষ্টে অনাহারে অর্ধাহারে বাস করতেন ফেরোজা। এমন সময় পল্লীশ্রী স্টেপ-আপ প্রকল্প সার্ভে কাজ শুরু হলে ফেরোজা সেখানে সহযোগিতা করে। সার্ভে করে যাচাই বাছাই হলে তিনি সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন। সে শাক সবজি, হাঁস-মুরগী, গরু-ছাগল পালনের উপর প্রশিক্ষণ পেয়েছেন। সে পল্লীশ্রী পরিচালিত প্রকল্প হতে শাক-সবজির বীজ, মুরগী, গরু ও ছাগল পেয়েছেন। একদিন তিনি বলেন এই সম্পদ পেয়ে আমরা খুবই খুশি এই সম্পদগুলোকে আমরা সন্তানের মতো যত্ন করি। কিছু মাস পর 10800/- টাকা মূল্যের প্রথম গরু বিক্রয় করে 18000/- টাকা লাভ করি। গরু বিক্রয়ের লাভের টাকা দিয়ে টিনের একটি ঘর ও চৌকি তৈরী করি এবং টিউবওয়েল কিনি। এসব সম্পদ করার পর ফেরোজা বলেন দল ও ফেডারেশনের সাথে আলোচনা করে কিভাবে গরুর খামার করা যায় তা করবো। তিনি আরো বলেন দেশী গাভী ক্রয় করে ক্রস পদ্ধতির মাধ্যমে একটি গাভী থেকে একটি উন্নত খামারে পরিণত করা যায়। বর্তমানে তার বাড়ীতে সম্পদ আছে ছয়টি ছাগল ও তিনটি গরু, একটু ভিটামাটিসহ কয়েকটি কাঠের ও ফলের গাছ। গরুর গোবর থেকে তিনি জৈব সার বিক্রি করে অল্পকিছু টাকা আয় করেন।
তিনি বলেন এখন সংসারে তেমন অভাব নেই। ফেরোজার ইচ্ছা সে বড় গরুর খামার করবে। সম্পদ গুলো নিয়ে সে বাকী জীবনের দিনগুলি সুখে শান্তিতে থাকবে। নারী উন্নয়ন সংস্থা (ফেডারেশন)-র মাধ্যমে এলাকার দরিদ্র-অতিদরিদ্র মানুষের পরিবর্তন আনার জন্য কাজ করবে।
Jahanpur is a small village in Dhamurhat upazila under Naogaon district. Parvin is one of the villagers of the said village. They lives hands to mouth due to her father have no any lands for cultivation and most of the time they depends on day labor but Parvin have no any arguments on it she lives with cheer-full face in all time with her same ages friends. Incidentally she got married when she was only 15 years old. After married she run her family normally but her fraud husband flew away and sends a divorce paper to her. Parvin came back to her parent’s house when she looks dark in her future.
After a few months a proposal comes to her parents on marriage of Parvin again. Her parents agreed without any hesitation and arranged marriage but not collect any sorts of checking character of new bridegroom named Jahangir. After few days Parvin felt that she was pregnant by naturally like others women but a black comments came from her father’s in- laws that this child which Parvin concept is not by Jahangir. As because he is a mad and he don’t know how to meet with a wife by sexually. Parvin informed her parents and they talk this hidden issue with their nearest and accountable neighbors Mr Prodip who is member of their respective ward change maker committee and done lots of activities to prevent domestic violence. Once a time Parvin make her a change maker to heard and read the materials of change maker’s documents. She found her own case study under the paper’s of change maker.
Her parents want help from the Prodip and he starts to dialogue with Jahangir’s family members. He try to understand that which baby concept by Parvin it is a combined and actual efforts of Jahangir and Parvin but they did not realized the matter. Prodip Kumar told this story to his another change maker and arranged a small meeting including both family member and finally pleased to Jahangir’s family member’s that Parvin told the fact and actual issue and this baby is came from by their family relation.
After a few days the baby born and by God shake the baby looks a Xerox of Jahangir. Her husband is fully a jobless person and so she collects money from her parent’s house to survive their family including new baby.
She took decision that she will manage a job for their better surviving and start to lobbing with some of elites and got a job of cook in a NGO and her husband Jahangir manage a job of night-guard in Destiny office. While there salary is too low but they run their family by taking decision in every spare with positive manure.
Parvin told that she looks a bright future of their family by the active support of the change maker’s of her respective areas and she wants that everybody of her village become change maker then the VAW and DV stopped and they build a violence free country.
A women club formed in the Munshipara at Hakimpur upazila under Dinajpur district. Meeting held regularly in monthly basis. All of the member’s select the name of their club is Bannishikha women club. During the meeting time few of outsiders join with them and heard the discussing issues with their own interest. Ambia begum (55) is one of them. She desire her feeling of 36 years family life which she passed with a hardship way. She got married with a man named Sayed Ali. She run her family life to face lots of torture by her husband. During her family life she gave birth four of sons, even she could not protest any time due to look her kids future. One by one she fostering her sons and gave married. During this time she took small plot and shops from her parents at the market place by inheritance. She seems that now she got honor from her husband and the foster sons but nature is opposite the ratio of torture was increasing after it. Finally she bound to give the plot and shops to her family members for business purpose. She gives all the land even she did not permit to build her house in the respective land. No of her family member’s bear her expense and she purchase medicine from out side. Ambia’s husband lives with her elder sons. When Ambia ask about the family expense her husband told that I cannot effort your expense as because I depend on others how I can manage your expense. At last Ambia Begum get a space into her third number of son’s house. She lives alone and tries to solve her own problem from elected person and local elites but yet to fail as because her husband declared that he never torture his wife and paid the family expense regularly but the result is opposite. Finally she join with Bannishikha women club and told her pathetic life story and try to taught other community people about the women rights and start to pretest against VAW and DV. He told each and every body of the club to be a protester against oppression. She is ready to protest against her sons and husband and collect local support for her and wish that she will be winning.
This is a story of Joynal Abedin who lives in Narayanpur village in Pirgonj upazila under Thakurgaon district. His wife’s name is Fency begum. Jaynal is a van-rickshaw puller. They lives hands to mouth. All the expense of their family depends on rickshaw pulling. They pass their family life in normal manure with two sons. Fency begum was managing every thing with very tactfully. But this happiness is not continuing. Day by day his income is lying down and problems are starting within their relation. Joynal become anger and did not received cordially any comments of her wife either it was family or educational expense of her kids. Even sometime physical tortured to his wife but Fency have no any answer to reply. Fency realized that something goes wrong and she start find out the solution as because her husband normally a good partner but why he plays this type of attitude. Finally she discovered that her husband have a bad doubt that she build a sexual relationship with other. Fency tries lots of time to her husband on this issue but failed even she arrange arbitration with local chairman and elites for solving her problems but result was same. Her husband did not receive the judgment of local shalish.
Regular meeting held in Pirgonj rickshaw trade union and discussed the issues like- what is torture/violence, Types of violence, What is domestic violence, How to prevent DV and VAW, What is change maker, who will be the change makers etc. Members of trade union attend the issue discussion meeting and realize or matching the actual situation including their livelihood. Joynal Abedin heard the issues and realized his fault on his wife. He promise that he will never do such types of violence and might be change himself as because the family is not only his they both are the part of their family and slowly he change himself and become a change maker.
Now he felt that the good relation between husband and wife should be change their livelihood towards development.
Shakhawat Hossain is a lecturer of Mohish Batan Technical College in Anaetpur under Mohadebpur upazila. Whole of his teaching life he tries to make good relation within his family member’s but never thought that some of little issues should be discussed with his wife and took decision from her side. Due to this issue his wife felt sorrow but Shakhawat did not fell it as a considering manure. He felt freedom to take his food alone. Social Intervention: Women Empowerment and Leadership project implements its activities in this area and make a ward change maker committee in 05 no Sujail union council. Shakhawat elected as a chairperson of the said committee. Every month they meet and discussed several issues and distributed poster, booklet, leaflet, what is change maker, who will be the change maker, what is domestic violence, types of violence, build habit to at least take one meal together in a day etc. He attend this meeting regularly. He is not taking this issues easily at the very first time but after passing few days he realizing the matters and thing that these are not a simple issue its are actual and perfect. He starts to discuss it in his family. Finally her starts to take meal at least one together with his family member’s. After few days he understood the impact of taking food together and starts to regular basis. Within this he tries to take any sorts of family decision with taking opinion of his wife and other family members. At present he believes that he is a change maker and makes his neighbor to become change maker for community development. He joins as a district change maker committee member of Noagaon and start work to prevent the domestic violence.
Mahfuja Begum (MINA) live in sutrapur village in Darshana union under Sadar upazila of Rangpur district. She is a active member of 01 no ward change maker committee. She desire her opinion to be a change maker through materials reading and attending lots of campaign of change maker and present herself as a change maker among her community. She makes other 20-change maker within very short time and continuing her process to bring positive change within her area. She communicates with her local elected bodies and some of elites to prevent violence against women with the active support of her respective community.
Last 25th of September 2009 an incident happened at Sutrapur village that a girl (Arifa) of 13 years has been married with a 22 years of young man but the girl is not agree to be sit down in marriage. She wants to finish her education at least 12 class and try to her parents about it. Arifa knew that Mahfuja one of their villager’s work on violence against women and she told all the story and request to keep confidentially and manage it. Mahfuja begum visits both parties house to investigation the actual factor and found it that it was absolutely violence on MINA. She starting lobbing to their parents in several times that the bad impact, legal matters of early marriage but could got any positive feedback from their side. At last Mahfuja discussed it in their committee and took decision to arrange a sitting with their parents and try to understand about the ongoing matters finally her parents are agree to dismissed the marriage and took decision for MINA that she will be continue her study and stand in position.
MINA is going to school regularly. They are grateful to Mahfuja as because if Mahfuja did not handle it carefully there was a big fault happened and all of they suffer with it in future.
